FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE Fill the gauge, release the burst
Limit gauges fill through stagger and damage — then you choose when to spend them.
Limit Bursts are the most powerful attacks available to your party in FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE. Unlike Visions, which stay equipped and build affinity over time, Limit Bursts are earned during combat itself: fill the limit gauge by staggering enemies or taking damage, then unleash a devastating attack or party-wide boon at the right moment. The full game launches October 22, 2026; the Chapter 1 demo lets you practice the stagger loop that feeds this system.
This page explains how the gauge fills, what the confirmed Limit Bursts do, and when to spend the charge. Pair it with the Combat Guide for stagger fundamentals and the Vision roster for the crystal system that works alongside Limit Bursts.
How the Limit Gauge Fills
Every party member — Rain, Lasswell, Fina, Jake, Lid, and Sakura — has an individual Limit Gauge that tracks combat performance. The gauge fills through two primary actions:
- Staggering an enemy: Hitting elemental weaknesses and breaking a foe’s stagger gauge contributes significantly to your Limit Gauge. This creates a synergy between the stagger system and Limit Burst charging — the more aggressively you play, the faster your Limit Bursts become available.
- Taking damage: Absorbing hits, especially heavy blows, also charges the gauge. This rewards aggressive play further: standing in fire to break a stagger bar faster is a valid strategy when it means your Limit Burst comes up before the boss’s next turn.
The gauge does not reset between battles. In a long dungeon or a boss fight with multiple phases, you can build toward a Limit Burst across several exchanges. This makes resource management a real consideration: do you spend the charge early for a quick victory, or hold it for the moment the boss is most vulnerable?
What Limit Bursts Do
Confirmed Limit Bursts from previews and briefings span two categories: raw damage and party-wide boons. Square Enix has not published a complete list in a form this wiki will fabricate. What follows are the named abilities that have appeared in official material.
Damage Limit Bursts
These are the finisher-type Limit Bursts that deal massive damage to one target or the entire enemy field. They are the answer when a boss is staggered and you need to convert that opening into a won fight.
- Fel Meteor — The Archwitch’s Grimoire, available through the Digital Deluxe edition or early purchase through 8:59 a.m. PT on November 6, 2026, grants this Limit Burst. It is a high-damage meteor attack that hits all enemies. Check the Pre-order Guide and the Editions tool for how to obtain it.
Boon Limit Bursts
These Limit Bursts do not deal damage. Instead, they grant powerful effects to the entire party:
- Haste — Speeds up the entire party’s timeline position, effectively granting extra actions before the enemy’s next turn.
- Reraise — Grants auto-revival, preventing a party member’s next KO.
- Curaja — Full party heal, useful in extended boss fights where MP management is a concern.
Square Enix has also implied there are Limit Bursts tied to specific characters’ personal histories, echoing their moments from their original Final Fantasy titles. These story-Limit Bursts are tied to character affinity rather than edition bonuses.
When to Use Limit Bursts
The worst time to fire a Limit Burst is the first turn of any fight you can Sweeping Stagger with Visions alone. The gauge is a resource, and spending it on a trash pack is leaving a boss’s second phase without coverage.
Good Limit Burst timing:
- A boss’s turn order is dangerous enough that skipping it changes the timeline
- You need to finish a staggered enemy before they recover
- Your healer is low on MP and a Curaja-type Burst solves that without costing a turn
- The enemy has a phase transition that resets stagger; fire the Burst just before that threshold
When to hold the charge:
- The first turn of any fight, unless you are about to lose a party member
- Before you have confirmed the enemy’s elemental profile
- When the Digital Deluxe or early-purchase Fel Meteor is your only Burst and you have not reached a meaningful boss yet
Limit Bursts and Vision Resonance
Vision Resonance and Limit Bursts are separate systems. Resonance comes from the Sweeping Stagger mechanic: stagger every enemy in one turn to open Extra Phase and spend a Vision Resonance finisher. Limit Bursts are charged through combat performance and spent on your own timing. They do not compete for the same resource and they do not interrupt each other.
The ideal fight flow is: build stagger, trigger Sweeping Stagger, fire Vision Resonance, and — if the boss survives — follow with a charged Limit Burst while the enemy’s defense is still broken. These systems layer rather than replace each other.
Chapter 1 and the Demo
The demo covers Chapter 1 only. Level restrictions apply. Limit Burst charging in the demo teaches the habit — watch the gauge, play aggressively to fill it, then spend — without giving you access to the full roster of Limit Bursts the retail game will offer. Save data transfers, so habits built in the demo carry forward.
For the full game on October 22, 2026, plan to enter each boss fight with at least one party member close to a Limit Burst charge. That preparation is the difference between using a Limit Burst on a boss’s opening attack and having it ready for the moment the boss is staggered and about to recover.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers drawn from Square Enix briefings and the Chapter 1 demo.
How do I charge the Limit Gauge in FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE?
Stagger enemies by hitting elemental weaknesses, or take damage yourself. Both actions fill the gauge. The more aggressively you play with stagger mechanics, the faster your Limit Bursts become available.
What is Fel Meteor?
Fel Meteor is a Limit Burst granted by the Archwitch's Grimoire, a Digital Deluxe bonus or early-purchase reward. It is a high-damage meteor attack hitting all enemies. See the Pre-order Guide for how to obtain it.
Are Limit Bursts the same as Vision Resonance?
No. Vision Resonance triggers after Sweeping Stagger (breaking every enemy's gauge in one turn) and uses equipped Vision crystals. Limit Bursts charge through combat performance and are spent independently. They are separate systems that layer together.
Can I use Limit Bursts in the Chapter 1 demo?
The demo covers Chapter 1 with level restrictions. You can charge and use Limit Bursts in the demo to practice the system. Save data transfers to the full game. Full roster access comes with the October 22, 2026 launch.
What is the best time to use a Limit Burst?
Hold Limit Bursts for boss fights, particularly when an enemy is staggered or when a boss's turn order is dangerous. Avoid spending them on trash packs you can win with Visions alone.
