FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE Preview tiers, not launch ranks

Hands-on letters for Visions and party comps until October 22, 2026.

Tier List Hub

These pages are preview tiers, not a day-one meta. FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE launches October 22, 2026 (Japanese Steam storefronts list October 23 because of timezone). Square Enix has shown a 26-Vision roster, a four-person party, and a timeline battle system with stagger and Sweeping Stagger Extra Phase. Press from IGN, VGC, Eurogamer, and GameSpot played Chapter 1-length sessions. None of them ranked the full roster, because the full roster is not in anyone’s hands.

Treat every S, A, or B on this hub as a hypothesis you can test in the Chapter 1 demo. Save data carries into the retail game, so a bad guess is cheap. A locked letter grade before launch is not.

Why this is labeled PREVIEW

A launch ranking needs complete kits, late Sanctums of Light, magicite budgets, and bosses that do not exist in the opening chapter. Preview sessions covered Mitra, early shrines, and a handful of equipped Visions. IGN’s June hands-on named Cloud, the Warrior of Light, Terra, Zidane, Y’shtola, and Shantotto. Eurogamer’s later slot still opened with Cloud and the Warrior of Light, plus two original Visions, and found Noctis hidden in a dungeon corner. That is a sample, not a census.

Square Enix has confirmed at least fourteen named Visions: Cloud, Warrior of Light, Terra, Clive, Tidus, Zidane, Noctis, Squall, Y’shtola, Shantotto, Charlotte, Leah, Tronn, and Aileen. The remaining crystals among the 26 are either unpublished or only briefly shown in trailers. Press copy has also named Cecil, Bartz, Lightning, Vaan, and several Brave Exvius originals. We do not invent letters for names we have not seen in a kit screen.

If you want a ranked list that pretends Sephiroth, Ultima Weapon, and every Sanctum are solved, this is the wrong wiki. Come back after October 22, 2026, when clear times exist.

How we group Visions

The Vision tier list sorts the confirmed names into preview S / A / B groups using three jobs the combat system actually rewards:

  • Physical closers — Cloud’s thunder-laced sword kit and the Warrior of Light’s knight kit showed up in every demo party we read. They convert a stagger into hit-point damage during Extra Phase.
  • Stagger mages — Terra, Tronn, and Shantotto exist to empty elemental gauges. Eurogamer’s wind-dragoon fight melted once ice was on the field. Tronn’s published kit even lists Stagger Power as a rank-zero bonus.
  • Supports — Y’shtola’s water-and-heal package, Leah’s white-mage role, Tidus’s Haste, and Charlotte’s ice-water guard keep the timeline from eating your healer.

Letters will move when magicite awakening, Limit Bursts, and late-game jobs are public. Until then, the combat guide and Visions guide explain the rules the letters are guessing at.

How we group parties

The party builds page does not crown a single “best team.” It sketches three preview compositions that match the stagger loop:

  1. A stagger-mage core that covers fire, ice, and lightning so Sweeping Stagger is a plan, not an accident.
  2. A knight wall that parks Rain or Lasswell on a defensive Vision so a long boss bar does not wipe Mitra’s inn run.
  3. A healer-and-esper line that keeps Fina alive long enough to call Siren or Ramuh when the Extra Phase is not enough.

Those comps sit on top of the party roster and the jobs page. Resonance is single-player. You are not drafting against another human; you are drafting against a timeline.

What the letters are not

They are not gacha rarity. Resonance rebuilt the first Lapis arc as a premium RPG. You visit Sanctums of Light; you do not pull banners. They are not damage-per-minute charts. Preview writers described feel, not parsed logs. They are not a reason to skip the demo walkthrough or the getting started checklist. A Vision you never unequip in Chapter 1 is a Vision you have not tested.

Ability cost matters more than nostalgia. Each character equips one Vision. Skills you learn can stay on the bar when you swap crystals, but only inside a cost cap. A “S-tier Cloud” who blows the entire cost budget on cinematic sword skills can be worse than a B-tier support who leaves room for Cure and an ice spell. Read jobs before you copy a letter.

How to use this hub

Start on Vision tiers if you care which crystal to awaken with a scarce Magicite Shard. Start on party builds if you care which four bodies walk into a shrine. Cross-check names on the Vision roster and the world page so you know which Sanctum actually drops the crystal. When Square Enix ships a new trailer, the trailers log is the place to see whether a kit changed; this hub will not silently rewrite letters without a source.

Pre-order and Deluxe items do not create hidden S-tiers. The Magitek Airship pack, Blessed Cuirass, and Archwitch’s Grimoire are convenience and cosmetics. Compare them on the editions tool instead of assuming Fel Meteor is a ranking argument.

After October 22, 2026

The plan is simple. The day the full 26-Vision list is in player saves, these pages drop the PREVIEW stamp and rebuild from Sanctum order, magicite cost, and Extra Phase damage. Until that date, every heading on this hub should read as a warning label. If a YouTuber posts a “final tier list” in September, it is still a preview list with better lighting.

If you are on PC, confirm system requirements before you chase 60 FPS screenshots from a press kit. The letters assume you can see the timeline. They do not assume a 4K overlay.

When the October 22, 2026 launch lands, this hub will swap preview labels for measured clear-time data. Until then, treat every letter as a hypothesis you can test in Chapter 1, then argue with the Vision page instead of with a screenshot taken in a darkened press room.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers drawn from Square Enix briefings and the Chapter 1 demo.

Is this a launch tier list?

No. Every ranking here is a PREVIEW based on IGN, VGC, Eurogamer, and GameSpot hands-on. FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE launches October 22, 2026. Come back after that date for measured ranks.

How many Visions are in the game?

Square Enix has stated 26 Visions, one equipped per character. This wiki ranks the fourteen named crystals we can describe from kits and previews, and leaves the rest unlettered. See Vision tiers.

Should I follow these ranks in the demo?

Use them as a starting lineup, then swap. The demo transfers saves, so experimenting with Cloud, the Warrior of Light, and any hidden shrine Vision is the point.

Do pre-order items change tiers?

No. The Magitek Airship pack and Squire Kickstart gear are EXP, gil, and cosmetics. They do not create a new Vision. Compare bonuses on editions.

Where should I go after reading this hub?

Read Vision tiers and party builds, then the combat guide so the letters map onto stagger and Extra Phase.
