FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE news timeline
Every public reveal from the June Direct to the Chapter 1 demo, with the October 22, 2026 launch still ahead.
This hub is the dated news log for FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE. Square Enix and Lancarse are building the first HD-2D game in the series as a premium single-player RPG, rebuilt from the opening Lapis arc of FINAL FANTASY Brave Exvius rather than ported as a gacha. The full game launches October 22, 2026 on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam and the Microsoft Store. Japanese Steam listings show October 23 because of timezone. Until that date, treat this section as a reveal archive: trailers, staff notes, edition confirmations, and the Chapter 1 demo that is playable today.
If you want systems instead of dates, start with the Guides Hub and the Getting Started overview. Combat, Visions, jobs, and the overworld live there. This page only answers what Square Enix has shown in public, and when.
How to read this timeline
Resonance was announced on June 9, 2026 during a Nintendo Direct, then filled in over the summer. The Release Date article holds platforms, price, languages, and editions. The Trailers article walks through the Direct film, the Pixel trailer, the August Vision spots, and the State of Play cut. The Demo Launch article covers save transfer and store listings. The State of Play recap covers the September 3, 2026 broadcast, IGN’s hour, and the Sephiroth tease. Bookmark those children; this hub is the index.
June 9, 2026 — Nintendo Direct
Square Enix introduced Resonance as the first FINAL FANTASY in HD-2D: pixel characters, cinematic cameras, and a crystal story with a modern twist. The Direct locked a worldwide launch window of October 22, 2026 and the platform set listed above. Marketing framed the pitch as “what if FINAL FANTASY had continued to push the limits of pixel art?” The same day, Square Enix priced the standard edition at $49.99 and the Digital Deluxe Edition at $59.99. Director Hiroto Furuya, producers Kei Hirono and Keisuke Nakashima, and co-developer Lancarse were named in follow-up materials. For the calendar and SKU list, use the release date page. For the film itself, use the trailers roundup.
Mid-July 2026 — Pixel trailer
Around July 16–17, 2026, Square Enix posted the Pixel trailer. It moved the camera through towns, the overworld, dungeons, esper summons, and turn-based fights with no ATB bar. Rain’s party, the Wild Rose flag, and the HD-2D lighting model were the focus. That film remains the best public look at traversal and atmosphere from before the demo went live.
August 2026 — Vision campaign
August was Vision month. Square Enix posted short films for the Warrior of Light, Cloud Strife, Shantotto, and Noctis Lucis Caelum, each framed around a Sanctum of Light. Those spots explain the 26 Visions at a high level: equip one crystal per party member, learn skills, then mix abilities inside a cost cap. Later films named other heroes, but those four launched the series. Pair the recap with how to get Visions, the Vision roster, and the Vision tier list.
September 3, 2026 — State of Play
PlayStation’s State of Play put a new gameplay trailer on screen and, the same day, Square Enix put the Chapter 1 demo live on every launch platform. The demo is the full opening chapter, about three to five hours, with save transfer into the retail game and some level restrictions. The same presentation teased a Sephiroth challenge with a special reward. The dated recap is State of Play. Store-facing notes sit on the demo launch recap. Play instructions live on the demo guide. The hunt brief is the Sephiroth guide.
Staff, music, and what comes next
Combat is turn-based with a timeline, stagger gauges, Sweeping Stagger, Extra Phase, and Vision Resonances. It is single-player only. Music comes from Elements Garden, led by Noriyasu Agematsu; a 120-track original soundtrack is scheduled for October 28, 2026, six days after launch. If you are buying PC, check system requirements and editions before you pre-order. The party page is the right next stop after you finish Chapter 1.
This hub will shift after October 22, 2026, when patch notes and post-launch events have something to record. Until then it stays a dated index of reveals, not a live service board. Play the demo, keep the three child articles under this heading, and come back here when Square Enix posts the next dated film or store change.
