Release Date

FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE launches October 22, 2026 worldwide. Square Enix locked that date on June 9, 2026 during the Nintendo Direct that introduced the first HD-2D game in the series, and every trailer since has repeated it. The full campaign is not out yet. What you can play today is the Chapter 1 demo that went live September 3, 2026; the retail build still sits on this October calendar.

This page is the store-facing recap: platforms, the Japanese Steam listing, price, editions, audio languages, and the staff who signed the project. For how to play after you buy, use Getting Started. For SKU bonuses in a table, use the editions tool and the pre-order guide.

Platforms

Square Enix is shipping Resonance on six storefronts at once:

  • Nintendo Switch
  • Nintendo Switch 2
  • PlayStation 5
  • Xbox Series X|S
  • PC via Steam
  • PC via the Microsoft Store on Windows

Physical copies are confirmed for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PlayStation 5. Xbox and PC are digital. Xbox storefront copy lists Xbox Play Anywhere, which matters if you bounce between a Series console and a Windows PC on the same account. Steam’s retail app is 3259780; the Chapter 1 demo is a separate app, 4474710. The PC build uses Denuvo Anti-Tamper. Check system requirements before you assume a handheld or older laptop will hold 60 FPS.

Nintendo players should choose a SKU on purpose. Square Enix has not offered a Switch-to-Switch 2 upgrade path, and save data does not move between those two versions. If you play the demo on Switch, buy Switch. If you play it on Switch 2, buy Switch 2. That choice is independent of the October 22 date; it is a hardware decision you make now.

Why Japanese Steam lists October 23

Worldwide marketing, Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, and the English Steam page all say October 22, 2026. Japanese storefronts list the Steam version as October 23, 2026. That is a timezone split, not a delayed Japanese PC SKU. If you are in Japan and watching the Steam countdown, expect the unlock to land on the 23rd local time while consoles still follow the global October 22 date. This wiki treats October 22 as the worldwide launch and October 23 as the Japanese Steam storefront listing.

Price, editions, and bonus windows

Suggested retail in the United States:

  • Standard — $49.99. Base game, physical or digital depending on platform.
  • Digital Deluxe — $59.99. Base game plus the Magitek & Grimoire Deluxe Pack: Magitek Armor Key (chocobo cosmetic), Archwitch’s Grimoire (an exclusive Limit Burst), Mastery Ring, and a stack of early consumables (tents, mist potions, mist ethers, Phoenix Downs, remedies).
  • Collector’s Edition — $209.99 from the Square Enix Store. Base game, Digital Deluxe bonuses, acrylic pixel blocks, a pixel art book, the four-disc soundtrack, and a FINAL FANTASY Trading Card Game promo card. Japan’s e-STORE lists the set at ¥25,500.

Japan’s standard price is ¥7,678; Digital Deluxe is ¥9,878. Those figures are tax-in retail from Square Enix’s Japanese announcement, not a regional Steam conversion.

Pre-order still grants the Magitek Airship pack, including the Magitek Airship Passkey that restyles your ship, plus starter gear such as the Knight’s Greatsword, Chestplate of Preparation, a Magicite Shard, tents, and mist potions. An early-purchase window through 8:59 a.m. PT on November 6, 2026 adds the Squire Kickstart Pack (Blessed Cuirass and a Mist Ether). That window is longer than launch day, so you can still qualify after October 22 if you buy before the cutoff. Compare every line item on the editions tool before you pay twice for overlapping consumables.

Languages and audio

Voice acting ships in English and Japanese. That dual audio track is the part most players search for, and it is consistent across the Square Enix Store language list.

Interface and subtitles split by platform:

  • Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PlayStation 5: Japanese, English, French, German, Spanish.
  • Xbox Series X|S, Windows, and Steam: those five, plus Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean (eight languages on Steam).

If you need a language that only the PC and Xbox builds list, buy those SKUs. Console carts and PS5 downloads follow the shorter set. There is no shared-session language screen to worry about, because Resonance is single-player only.

What launches on October 22

Resonance is a single-player HD-2D JRPG with classic turn-based commands and no ATB bar. The timeline, stagger gauges, Sweeping Stagger, Extra Phase, and Vision Resonances are the combat pitch; the combat guide is the systems write-up. Twenty-six Visions of legacy heroes sit in Sanctums of Light and story events. Jobs are the accessible layer on top of those crystals: learn a skill from one Vision, keep it after you swap, and stay inside the cost cap. Official talk puts the main story around 30–40 hours, with side routes stretching further if you chase Gilgamesh, the Colosseum, the Chamber of Arms, and Ultima Weapon. Those hunts belong on side content and the world page, not on this calendar.

You play the campaign alone. Square Enix has been explicit that this is a premium boxed RPG with no gacha. If a store tag still says “multiplayer,” ignore it.

Staff and the soundtrack date

Hiroto Furuya directs. Kei Hirono and Keisuke Nakashima produce. Square Enix develops with Lancarse, the studio behind several HD-2D productions. Music comes from Elements Garden, with Noriyasu Agematsu leading a team that also includes Seima Kondo, Ryota Tomaru, Junpei Fujita, and Hitoshi Fujima. The original soundtrack is a four-disc, 120-track set scheduled for October 28, 2026, six days after the game launches. It mixes returning Brave Exvius and War of the Visions cues with 33 new pieces written for Resonance. The Collector’s Edition includes that CD set early; a standalone soundtrack SKU follows.

Between the demo and launch day

The Chapter 1 demo is playable today and carries into the retail save. Use the demo launch recap for the September 3 details and the demo guide for the route. Watch the film history on the trailers page if you still need a visual sense of towns and dungeons. Official links and storefronts sit on the links directory. Tools for hardware and SKUs live under the tools hub.

Keep this page as the calendar, not as a live-service feed. Remaining dated items are simple: play the demo now, wait for October 22, 2026 (October 23 on Japanese Steam), pick up the soundtrack on October 28 if you want the discs, and remember the Squire Kickstart cutoff at 8:59 a.m. PT on November 6. After those dates this article becomes a launch record; until then it is the only place you need for “when, where, and how much.”
